Message from the President: Christina R. Salem

It is my honor to serve as current President of the esteemed NYCAIW, an organization I have been fortunate to be a part of for over a decade with the incredible women of the NYCAIW Board, and which has been a cornerstone of professional development and charitable giving within the insurance industry.

I am starting with a note of gratitude to all our members, sponsors, event attendees, mentors, mentees and supporters.  Your partnership with the NYCAIW has allowed us to serve our mission of uniting all facets of the insurance industry and its professionals through a supportive and dynamic environment, while also fulfilling our charitable goals.  Thank you so much for being a part of and helping us build the special NYCAIW community.

The NYCAIW strives to empower its members through networking events, charitable initiatives, leadership gatherings and educational opportunities that promote personal and professional growth. We understand the impactful power of industry collaboration and relationships in building successful insurance leaders.

At our annual Fall Kick Off event, insurance representatives gather to network and strengthen professional ties.  The annual May Luncheon is our largest fundraising event, where we host hundreds of insurance industry guests who help us honor the achievements of a female Insurance Professional of the Year.  We also hold in-person and online functions to facilitate networking connections, discuss important insurance and career topics and provide leadership skills.  These create opportunities for our attendees to connect and share their experiences, provide an atmosphere for them to lead with confidence and integrity, and help pave the way for career successes.

Equally important is the NYCAIW’s support of various charities and their important causes.  Your attendance at and sponsorships of our events is the means to make that possible.  Every year, the NYCAIW funds two scholarships for The Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University to female students seeking to pursue insurance careers, hosts also for St. John’s University a career panel discussion for its insurance students, financially donates to Sanctuary for Families (a shelter for battered family members), provides to local underprivileged schools supplies for students prior to each fall term and sponsors holiday food drives for the Food Bank for NYC.  One focus during my term will be to partner with an additional charity for the NYCAIW to support.  This is being made possible through our supportive network and we thank you greatly for allowing us to expand our charitable mission.

We also recently launched our mentorship program, which connects experienced insurance professionals with those requesting insight and guidance to help them navigate the complexities of career development and professional journeys.  Our mentors, all from diverse backgrounds and industries, share with mentees their knowledge, insights, and experiences to foster an environment where mentees can thrive, gain confidence, and achieve their insurance professional goals.  Please consider strengthening our mentorship program and apply to be a mentor or mentee.

There is a place for all at the NYCAIW, whether you are a seasoned professional or new to the industry, and we encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities available.

Enjoy exploring our website, attending our events, and being a part of our initiatives.  It is the collective that has built this vibrant and remarkable space, which continues to grow and thrive each year.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the NYCAIW.  I look forward to serving as your President for this term.  The future continues to be bright for the NYCAIW community!

Sincerely,

Christina R. Salem
